After reading lots of takes on last night’s episode of Lost, here are some of the most interesting tidbits in my opinion:

  • Could Matthew Abbadon actually be future Walt? – I don’t think so
  • Notice the record playing at the beginning of the episode? Buddy Holly. Buddy Holly died in an airplane crash (the day the music died) along with Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. Parallels Ben, Locke & Hurley?
  • Richard Alpert’s test of young John – In buddhism, they find children born on the same day that the last Dalai Lama died and place objects in front of them and ask them which are theirs, just like Alpert did to Locke, to see if they are the spirit of the Dalai Lama reincarnated. The Dalai Lama is the teacher of Dharma (enlightenment). Do they suspect that Locke is someone (maybe Jacob?) reincarnated?
  • It sure looks like Claire died in the rocket explosion and is now a spirit/ghost/whatever like Christian.
  • John’s mother was named Emily. Ben’s mother was named Emily. John was given up by his mother. Ben’s mother died giving birth. Both John and Ben were born premature – before the third trimester when babies on the island die. Both were named by their mother before they were separated. Ben would’ve been born about the same time young John “failed” the test. (Was he a replacement for John? If so, was this a mistake and is the island trying to correct this mistake?)
  • Could John and Ben be half brothers?
  • Is Jacob a future version of John? If John and Ben are half brothers, this makes sense. Jacob had a youger brother, Esau, who was jealous of him because he was the favored or chosen one.
** 5/10 – As Willy Wonka would say “Strike that.  Reverse it.”  I had my story mixed up.  Jacob was the younger brother of Esau.  He tricked his dying and blind father Isaac into thinking he was Esau and giving him the blessing that was rightfully meant for Esau.  Jacob has to flea in fear that Esau, who is rightfully ticked off, will kill him.  Eventually Jacob reforms, has a family, and reconciles with Esau.  So, this could still work with Ben and John.  But, it seems more like John would be Esau and Ben would be Jacob – the one who took his older brothers rightful place.  Hmm?
  • How did the doctor wash up on shore before he was killed on the freighter? – Because he was dead and floating in the water, he couldn’t maintain the correct heading and his body time jumped.
  • The Book of Laws – Mr. Ecko told John a story about a leader who found a book of laws after losing all his people.
  • The vile – was it sand from the beach? the mysterious ash that appeared around the cabin? mustard seeds?
  • The compass – the same compass he gave to Sayid?
  • Why exactly is Richard angry that young John picks up the knife?
  • Was it Richard that hit Emily with his car?
  • What’s with the look on Claire’s face?
Awesome episode. Can’t wait for the last two.
